I can understand that everyday people choose to believe in Lorenz Gadient and Wim Winters’ theory. But professional musicians should not support the theory. We don’t discuss which tempi we like ourselves, but we do discuss what the old sources tell us, just like HIP and Baroque music. The whole beat theory is due to a translation error from French, according to experts. The video briefing on it is called: «Wim Winters’s Metrical Second Debunked» a video by Period Instruments. Watch from 5:45, Wim Winters quote: «The up down movement of the hand is converted into a left right movement of the pendulum». Period Instruments quote: «FALSE, Marin Mersenne never wrote that! Notonce, in the entire ‘Harmonie Universelle». You can be sure that if such section existed in the document, Wim Winters would have shown it, highlighted in red!»
Hello! After listening to Wim Winters' arguments and practical demonstrations, I have come to the conclusion that in some moments, he is probably not so wrong, however, not in all eras and national styles. The duration of any harpsichord note is very short, which is why, in many 17th and 18th century sources, it is mentioned that it has to be played dynamically.
